Maximizing the Price/Performance Equation of Biodiesel

NBF provides a full spectrum of biodiesel based to meet the needs of petroleum distributors. With a growing network of quality biodiesel producers, NBF is able to provide biodiesel that not only meets ASTM 6751 specifications, but biodiesel that can meet certain temperature-related needs and/or price points on a short or long-term basis.

NBF has the ability to deliver biodiesel from a variety of feedstock including soy, tallow and choice white grease, yellow grease, etc. Each feedstock can be made into biodiesel that meets ASTM 6751 specifications. But each type of biodiesel has certain characteristics that go beyond ASTM such as cold filter plugging point. In the north during winter this can be an issue. The trade-off to obtain biodiesel that performs at lower temperature is often price. During the summer or in temperate climates during the winter, specifications need not be as sensitive. NBF can configure a biodiesel that meets your needs by a variety of means including selecting the proper feedstock, blending biodiesels from different feedstocks and the use of additives to maximize the price-performance-quality equation of biodiesel.

Confidence in an Uncertain Market

The price of biodiesel is not the only factor that determines profitability in marketing biodiesel. In an uncertain world where the commodity prices of petroleum products may not coincide with commodity prices of agricultural fats and oils, NBF can offer terms and services that help mitigate risk and improve profitability on a consistent basis. We are experienced commodity traders with partners who can help hedge risk by being able to offer such pricing plans that can be indexed against the price of diesel or other commodities. This takes away the uncertainty of committing to market biodiesel as the variety of commodity prices may vary.

Biodiesel Blends

NBF produces biodiesel from a variety of different feedstocks, each with its own unique benefits. In addition, we are the only biodiesel company with the ability to develop special blends for our customers. 100% Soy based Biodiesel

Like most biodiesel producer we produce a 100% soy biodiesel for agricultural and other fleet applications. Our facilities have been producing soy based biodiesel for several years and guarantee that our product exceed ASTM specifications. Whether your organization needs one tanker load a month or 10 rail cars, we have the capacity to meet customer needs. Where we differentiate ourselves is our ability to also provide other blends as an alternative or enhancement to our soy blends.

Used Vegetable Oils (UVO) based Biodiesel

We also have a limited ability to produce biodiesel from UVO, which despite the reduced federal credits, is an excellent option in certain applications.

Tallow based biodiesel

We have a tallow-based facility currently in construction and will be ready Q1 2006 for limited sales in the upper Midwest. Several million gallons a month of biodiesel should be available by midsummer 2006. The primary advantages of tallow-based biodiesel are:
• Same “first use” status as virgin vegetable oils
• Lower NOx emissions than soy-based biodiesel
• Potential for slightly lower pricing
The negatives of using tallows, such as higher cloud points and pours points can be addressed in most applications by either blending the biodiesel as a B2 or using additives (which NBF can provide).

Custom Blends and Custom Additives

One of NBF’s biggest values is our ability to blend different feedstocks for specific applications, incorporating various additives to ensure it meets your specifications. As this is a customer specific application, please contact NBF for more information.

Financial Products

NBF is the only seller of biodiesel able to provide long-term fixed or indexed pricing. This ability allows your organization the flexibility to make long term capital commitments to either reselling biodiesel or using it in your fleet.

Fixed Price Contracts

We can provide up to two-year fixed-price contracts for 100% soy based biodiesel. For this product your organization should expect a small premium over current market rates extended over the term of the agreement. Now your organization can get guaranteed pricing for the duration of your contract allowing it to accurately budget its expenditures in this time of rapidly increasing energy prices. As importantly, NBF has the financial stability to stand behind these contracts.

Indexed Contracts

For those customers that place a premium on long-term access to supply, we are able to provide long-term index-based contacts. In this case, we can index your contact to several liquid energy contracts or to regional OPIS rack pricing. We can provide long- term contracts for as long as three years. Depending on the region, payment terms, and delivery options, the premium for this product over current market rates is smaller than fixed-price contacts.
